We have investigated the effects of phosphate deficiency on plastids. Plastids are components of the plant cell specialized in photosynthesis or in the accumulation of reserve substances, or pigments which color the flowers and fruits. All are constituted by a double envelope (an outer membrane and an inner membrane) which participates in many functions in plant cells.
